Mission Statement

Sustaining Way uses education, collaboration, and advocacy to create sustainable, caring, and equitable communities for current and future generations.

About This Cause

Founded in 2012, Sustaining Way uses education, collaboration, and advocacy to create sustainable, caring, and equitable communities for current and future generations. Our six focus areas - Consumption and Waste, Energy, Environmental Sustainability, Food and Landscape, Health and Wellness, and Social Sustainability - provide education and advancement for the Nicholtown community and greater Greenville. To address many of the challenges faced by communities in poverty, Sustaining Way opened Annie’s House in 2015 - a model of an affordable, highly efficient home that demonstrates sustainable practices, serves as an education center and base of operations in Nicholtown, and houses community coordinators who lead our programs. Sustainable living solutions presented include urban agriculture, energy efficiency and production, and sustainable home construction and refurbishment. Sustaining Way’s long-term plan is to proliferate our model into other marginalized communities in South Carolina and throughout the South.
