Mission Statement
The Mr. Strong Foundation, Inc. is an IRS qualified 501 (c)3 corporation, registered in the state of Florida as a not-for-profit corporation with their focus solely on the needs of “special needs” children and their families. The Mr. Strong Foundation, Inc. wants to make sure that no special needs child be denied therapy services due to financial constraints and or lack of insurance coverage. The Mr. Strong Foundation, Inc. is providing financial assistance for therapy services (ie: behavioral, occupational, physical and speech to families with children who have special needs).
About This Cause
For the past 10 years, I’ve been the mother to an amazing little boy with special needs, named Landon Harrington, and he has opened my eyes to a world unlike any other. Landon’s nickname is “Mr. Strong,” because no matter what obstacles have been thrown his way, he has not let them stop him, and has done it all with a smile on his face. I have learned so much about the special needs community and what it is like, firsthand, to be told that your child needs therapy services several times per week. Luckily enough, we have private insurance to help us afford them, but there are families, who I have known personally, who aren’t always as lucky. Therefore, it leaves the parent or caregiver with the difficult predicament of how to come up with the funds to pay for their child’s expensive therapy services that he/she so desperately needs to succeed. I’ve sat in waiting rooms and listened to other families’ hardships, and that is why I started the Mr. Strong Foundation: to help those families with special needs children, living right here in the Tampa Bay community, afford their therapy services. (Landon and I do not personally, in any way, benefit financially from the organization; all of the funds raised go to those families in need). Everyone who is involved with the Mr. Strong Foundation is here on a volunteer basis. We do what we do because we love the special needs children. We know how desperately these beautiful children need these therapy services (i.e.: occupational, physical, speech & behavior), so we do our best to try and raise funds so that they can afford these expensive services that teach them life skills and make their bodies stronger. We also host sensory friendly events for the special needs community that allow them to enjoy gatherings that are specifically catered just towards them. Just recently we brought real life snow to a special needs school in St. Pete, FL and the kids absolutely loved it. Some of the kids that were visually impaired were able to touch the cold snow and the kids that were in wheelchairs were hoisted out of their wheelchairs and carried up the stairs and therapists and our volunteers took them sledding down a two person sled. It was an experience we all will never forget. We love making memories for these children and in return they provide us with memories that will last us a lifetime as well.
