Mission Statement
HomeFirst STL supports people who once lived on the street by providing an affordable home, community, mentoring and access to employment with the goal of ending homelessness.
About This Cause
Our focus is to provide a supportive, affordable home to people who have found themselves homeless. It is our goal to serve the underserved - those who are ineligible for other forms of aid and are having a difficult time getting the help they need because of their circumstances. Our tenants may not fit the criteria for other supportive housing around the city (such as housing for mentally disabled or HIV positive), but something in their lives has plagued them in order to push them into homelessness. We will support our tenants in their continued rehabilitation through community support and employment opportunities, such as Bridge Bread. HomeFirst STL will make a significant impact on the St. Louis community. The process is simple. We buy fixer-uppers and make them beautiful. Then we find homeless St. Louisan's who are ready to make a change in their lives but do not qualify for other types of aid. By implementing the model of Housing First, we will get people into a safe environment of their own that they can afford, allowing them to climb out of the pit that is homelessness. The changes that can occur in someone when they have a roof over their head are astounding. When their focus is not on safety and survival, people are allowed to thrive. Adding mentoring and employment opportunities to the mix provides a full-circle approach to our program. Not only will we provide housing at a rate that is realistic for them, but we are offering the aid needed to allow them to be successful and sustainable in their transition to a stable lifestyle.
