Mission Statement

Worthwhile Wear exists to reach and restore women affected by human trafficking because we believe that everyone is worthwhile.

About This Cause

Worthwhile Wear was established as a 501(c)3 non-profit in 2012 to reach and restore women affected by human trafficking. Through our Continuum of Care, we are able to meet trafficking survivors wherever they are in their journey, beginning with our Worth It trauma recovery and empowerment outreach. Participants that complete the Worth It program may then enroll in our long-term, restorative housing program, The Well, through which wraparound services are provided. Residents at The Well are also offered employment at Worthwhile Thrift where they receive job skills training and learn economic self-sufficiency. Worthwhile Thrift stores also serve as sustainability for our programs. Trauma is the primary underlying factor that causes or perpetuates societal issues like addiction, unemployment, fractured relationships, and maladaptive behaviors. We believe healing begins when trauma is identified and addressed, and when meaningful relationships are made. The road to healing requires a comprehensive response, which is why Worthwhile Wear's Continuum of Care first engages survivors where they are, in our communities, then offers long-term stability, and finally provides them with opportunities for financial independence. Every woman with whom we are still in touch that has graduated Worthwhile Wear's Continuum of Care is living a free, financially independent life. Overseas Strategy Our strategy to effectively and efficiently address the issue of human trafficking overseas revolves around a concerted effort to partner with existing organizations, local governments, and law enforcement agencies. By partnering with others we can share existing buildings, programs, and even staff to rapidly help women, rather than taking months or years to start a plant from scratch. We aren’t reinventing the wheel, but instead organizing the many “spokes” to make the “wheel” more effective. If Worthwhile Wear cannot locate an organization in an area that desperately needs a vocational, employment, and/or education center, then we will work on starting a new facility. Local Strategies WORTH IT is a series of classroom experiences for women with a history of forced prostitution on subjects like trauma, domestic abuse, and general health issues, including suicide prevention. The program connects participants to area service providers and offers information about laws surrounding prostitution and trafficking. The Well addresses the need for long-term housing, restorative care (counseling and mentorship) and employment for survivors of sexual exploitation and/or trafficking in the United States. This program fills a gap in services relating to restoration and housing for survivors of human trafficking. Sustainable Strategies Worthwhile Thrift stores serve as an additional financial support for Worthwhile Wear and its restorative programs. Two locations offer shoppers a variety of women's, men's, and children's clothing along with books, media, housewares, and electronics.
