Mission Statement

Lizzy’s mission is to offer sanctuary in a home environment to elder (10+ years old) and/or terminally pups in kill shelters, or who would ultimately end up in a kill shelter, focusing on health, finding forever families, and providing loving and humane end-of-life care, if needed.

About This Cause

Lizzy's Animal Hospice is a last chance rescue for senior pups (10+ years) since the ones we are able to bring in are typically passed over by other rescues with the sad excuse that they are too expensive and are not adoptable. We agree that many take extra funding to improve their health, but also know they are worth every penny. And we certainly have a proven track record that these sweet seniors are absolutely adoptable. It is like the tortoise and the hare theory. The mainstream rescues that say these pups are expensive and not adoptable represent the hare and Lizzy’s, not in a rush to get them out, but giving the pup the time they need to get healthy or to just become comfortable and relaxed, knowing they are safe and loved, well, we are proudly the tortoise. Our senior pups are elderly and terminally ill and come from kill shelters or who would be heading to a kill shelter. We started out as solely a sanctuary, but quickly realized that there are other people who also feel the way we do about senior pups and have opened their homes to them, so we switched focus to getting them healthy and finding them forever families, when possible. If the pup comes to Lizzy’s with a terminal illness, they stay with the Lizzy’s family, receiving the love and care needed to keep them happy and comfortable, for as long as possible. We use eastern and western veterinary care to accomplish this. The pups with Lizzy’s live with and are cared for by foster families, being incorporated as a family member. Sometimes this is the first time a companion animal has ever lived inside, has received positive affection, or received medical care of any type. We do not attempt to cure terminal a illness, however, quality of life is key to the success of our program. We are blessed to be able to be such an important part of these lives when we are needed most . . . towards the end of life, if needed.
