Mission Statement
Shri Service Corps is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which funds and delivers free yoga outreach programs, 7 days of every week, for special-needs populations and their staff with skilled teachers, trained on a joyful, rhythm-based curriculum, cultivating compassionate, balanced and inclusive communities intended to reduce toxic stress while increasing physical, social and emotional health through shared, effective and efficient methods rooted in yogic philosophy and trauma-informed practices.
About This Cause
Shri Service Corps provides yoga and wellness programs to underserved populations in Rhode Island, southeastern Massachusetts and beyond, who cannot afford such opportunity. Studies have shown that a consistent yoga practice can help people reduce stress, gain focus, increase flexibility, strengthen muscles and improve moods. Taught by certified, experienced instructors of all backgrounds, Shri is committed to creating positive, productive and healthy communities through the practice of yoga. Every month, more than 100 classes are fully funded by Shri Service Corps. Classes are held in person and online. Annually, Shri serves more than 8,500+ people, ages 5-102. In 2019, Shri provided 1,650 free yoga outreach classes. During the global pandemic of 2020, we were still able to provide 1,558 free yoga outreach classes. Shri’s Signature Projects Include: • Shri Recovery Project, which serves adults in recovery from drug and alcohol addictions • Shri Adaptive Project, which serves adults with physical, intellectual and developmental disabilities and is the only one of its kind in the country • Shri School Project & Shri Yoga & Smart Snacking Project, which serves students and teachers during the school day or after school and includes nutritional education and nut-free Shri Bark snacks • Shri Hospital Project, which serves patients, families and caregivers at hospitals, hospice, free clinics and other health centers • Shri Military Project, which serves active members of the military and veterans • Shri Shelter Project, which serves women, children and seniors in shelters • Shri Senior Project, which serves the growing 55+ population • Shri Staff Project, which serves the staff from partner agencies, including DCYF
