Pacific Collegiate Foundation supports the mission, the students and the programs of Pacific Collegiate School.

About This Cause

Pacific Collegiate School (PCS) was founded in 1999 as a public charter school by local education visionaries seeking to improve traditional public education. Over the years, PCS has developed a rigorous learning environment that prepares highly motivated students for the challenges of college and the expectations of today’s world. A focus on academic excellence is at the heart of the PCS college-preparatory experience, which, together with an extensive fine arts program and extracurricular clubs and sports, supports personal development and growth. Since its founding, PCS has provided families with an important public school choice, delivering a distinctive program centered on college readiness, dynamic engagement in the arts and helping students develop to their greatest potential. A nationally recognized, award-winning school, PCS complements Santa Cruz County’s other stellar educational institutions, Cabrillo College and the University of California, Santa Cruz, each of which also fosters and strengthens a rich environment for motivated students. Authorized by the Santa Cruz County Office of Education and accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, PCS has an open admissions policy: admission is non-selective and determined through a public lottery. Located on the west side of Santa Cruz, PCS draws students from Santa Cruz County and surrounding areas. The small school environment at PCS allows for intimate class sizes and highly personalized learning to support students in their academic goals. Current enrollment is 510 in grades 7 through 12, with a student to teacher ratio of 21 to 1. Faculty have deep expertise in their subject areas and are selected in part for their passion and ability to inspire a love of learning in their students. PCS offers a richly integrated curriculum aimed at preparing students to enter and thrive at colleges and universities worldwide. The course of study concentrates on traditional academic areas of mathematics, English, science, history and world languages, along with an emphasis on visual arts, theater arts and music. Open access to Advanced Placement (AP) courses for all students, is one of the key ways PCS is different from other schools.
