Mission Statement
Living Bread is a faith-based non-profit counseling center with the mission to inspire hope and healing in those who struggle with eating disorders and who believe the lie that their bodies are unlovable. Living Bread accomplishes its mission through evidenced-based counseling and nutritional therapy, providing affordable care on a sliding scale, as well as providing mentorship and healing prayer for those who request it.
About This Cause
Eating disorders are complex and often deadly diseases which affect over 25 million people in the United States. Despite the increasing prevalence of eating disorders, only 1 in 10 people receive treatment and only 30-40% ever fully recover. The largest barrier to full recovery is the high cost of treatment which includes therapy and nutritional counseling sessions. On average, in Greenville, an individual will spend over $750 each month on basic mental and nutritional counseling. We utilize a financial review process, based on HHS Poverty Guidelines, and tied to the demonstrated client need. The client completes a Financial Assistance Application and proof of income which is reviewed by the Financial Assistance Committee (FAC) on a weekly basis. The award, or scholarship amount, is applied directly to the cost of the client visit and the client is only responsible for a copay amount. Our goal is for at least 80% of our clients to demonstrate an increase in health and/or attitude toward food and their bodies. Prayer counseling is offered to any client who requests it. A comprehensive assessment will be administered to each client to track progress toward recovery. The FAC will review the client files on a regular basis to determine whether the client situation has changed. All donations received by Living Bread are used in the Financial Assistance process. A small percentage of all donations will go toward supporting our brick and mortar Eating Disorder Center, software to assist with remote visits, and administrative support.
