Mission Statement
Our mission is to improve pregnancy and birth outcomes for communities of color in central Texas by providing culturally congruent education and support using the midwifery model of care.
About This Cause
Mama Sana Vibrant Woman (MSVW) is a community organization that works to facilitate access to culturally appropriate and quality, prenatal and postnatal care for birthing people of color in Austin and Travis County. Our Vision is a just and loving world where all mothers receive attentive quality loving care and where all communities have equitable resources to care for their children. We are a caregivers of color some of us identify as mothers, sisters, and people disrupting capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy and institutional abuse. Our organization is built upon shared leadership model and focuses on whole-body wellness from a reproductive justice lens. Mama Sana Vibrant Woman offers a holistic approach to maternal health by providing wraparound services that address both the medical and social determinants of health. Our programs are designed to offer continuous support throughout the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum periods, ensuring that our clients receive comprehensive care tailored to their specific needs. Prenatal & Postnatal Support Groups: These groups provide a space for expectant and new mothers to share experiences, gain knowledge, and receive emotional support. They cover essential topics such as nutrition, childbirth preparation, and postpartum care. Birth Companions and Midwifery Support: We offer continuous support from trained doulas and midwives who provide culturally sensitive care during labor and delivery, ensuring that birthing people have a positive and empowering birth experience. Wellness Days: Regular wellness days offer health check-ups, educational workshops, and holistic wellness services to support the overall health of our clients. Childbirth Prep Workshops: These workshops prepare expectant parents for labor and delivery, providing detailed information and hands-on practice to reduce fear and anxiety. Childcare: In collaboration with the Maternal Health Equity Collaborative, we provide childcare services to ensure that our clients can attend prenatal and postnatal appointments, support groups, and workshops without worrying about the care of their other children. This includes on-call childcare support for labor and delivery, where a childcare specialist arrives when parents leave for the hospital and stays until a parent returns. In addition to these core programs, we offer access to services that are often not accessible or fully covered by insurance: Mental Health Counseling: Access to individual therapy support sessions with our clinic support therapist for mental health care. Lactation Consultants: Our lactation consultants provide guidance, support, and practical techniques to ensure successful body feeding. Pelvic Floor Therapy: One-on-one sessions with a physical therapist to care for the pelvic floor, promoting recovery and health postpartum. Project Connect and Financial Cash Assistance: Project Connect is a rental assistance program for any program participant of an organization that is a part of Austin's Maternal Health Equity Collaborative, and other community organizations. MSVW manages and administers payments directly to landlords. This program is vital in addressing the broader social determinants of health that impact maternal outcomes. We also offer direct financial assistance to our clients to help meet essential needs.
