Mission Statement
Dry Bones is a long-standing community of support among Denver’s unhoused teens and young adults. We have the simple but radical belief that companionship itself can be profoundly transformative. So alongside helping to meet emotional, spiritual, and physical needs, our true work is practicing the way of Jesus through building ongoing relationships that remind the invisible among us of their immeasurable worth.
About This Cause
Dry Bones Denver seeks to meet spiritual, emotional and physical needs of youth and young adults experiencing homelessness. We seek to equip and inspire. In an effort to fulfill this mission we engage in providing safe spiritual support and care. Young people, living on the streets know they can come to Dry Bones for spiritual needs, discussion and support. Dry Bones provides familial connection and basic emotional life support, becoming family to those who often have no other family. Dry Bones staff and volunteers offer support through various life stages, struggles, and celebrations. Every activity, help, program, support, or service is offered within the context of genuine and meaningful relationship. Dry Bones staff members are out on the streets every weekday afternoon. Street outreach provides an important intersection for meeting new young people on the streets and beginning relationships on “their turf”. Every week, Dry Bones supplies many practical basic services and needs. Practical items include things like: hygiene products, portable food, hot meals, clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, tarps, water, socks, underwear, and more. Additionally, we provide resource navigation assistance as young people exit street life. This involves being experts at available opportunities and helping our friends take hold of appropriate services and programs throughout Denver in order to reach their goals (sobriety, housing, jobs, education, etc). Dry Bones offers opportunities for our friends on the streets to participate in professional and voluntary therapy, group therapy, mindfulness training, meditation, and life-coaching. One doesn’t “graduate” from Dry Bones. It is a community that our friends can belong to for the rest of their lives if they so choose. This gives us an advantage as we walk alongside our friends towards life-change. In many ways, we are the “non-program” in their lives, and that is significant. Additionally, Dry Bones has a one year job training program, Purple Door Coffee. Purple Door Coffee is a specialty coffee roaster in Denver, Colorado. We exist to reclaim and sustain the lives of young adults seeking to leave homelessness behind through supportive and meaningful employment. All program employees come from within the Dry Bones Community.
