Mission Statement
Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is committed to alleviate hunger and poverty in Israel. The organization assists the truly needy from all spectrums of the community and all regions of the country – the orphans, widows, single parent and large families that have fallen on hard times. Our goal is to ease the suffering of impoverished families and break the cycle of poverty.
About This Cause
Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is a humanitarian organization that helps fight poverty in Israel. The organization assists those that are in need throughout the country – orphans, single parents, poor families, those too sick to work, the elderly (including holocaust survivors) and new immigrants. Our goal is to make sure everyone has food, to ease the suffering of impoverished families, break the cycle of poverty and give children from needy families a chance for a better future. Yad Ezra V'Shulamit was formed in 1988 by Aryeh Lurie in Israel. Mr Lurie, who grew up hungry, made it his life mission to help needy families feed their children. He named the organization after his parents, who always gave to those less fortunate than them despite their own poverty. Today, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit provides assistance to 100,000 poverty stricken individuals throughout Israel. The organization’s slogan is: Feeding Israel's Hungry Children and Families. To fight poverty at its root, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit has a holistic approach and provides a full range of services to ensure that needy people in Israel can have a brighter future for themselves and escape the cycle of poverty. Yad Ezra V’Shulamit distributes 10,000 food baskets each week and 50,000 food baskets on Rosh Hashanah and Passover to the impoverished. The organization’s children’s centers provide daily hot meals, after-school educational programs and academic enrichment via personalized tutoring to impoverished children. In addition, daily hot meals are delivered to the homes of hundreds of children in Jerusalem. Yad Ezra V'Shulamit also provides monthly food vouchers to hundreds of impoverished widows and orphans as well as baby formula to hundreds of new mothers and single parent families with very young children in desperate need of help.
