Mission Statement
Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry (EYFP) is a volunteer driven organization dedicated to providing food, compassion, and hope to our neighbors and children in need. The need continues to increase. Over the last five years we have grown from serving about 100 families per month to over 700 households per month now.
About This Cause
Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry is a registered 501(c)(3) organization that has been serving our community since 1983. Our Mission We are dedicated to providing food, compassion, and hope to our neighbors and children in need. Our Service Area EYFP serves residents of Addison, Bensenville, Berkeley, Elmhurst, Hillside, Lombard, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, & Villa Park. How We Began EYFP began in 1983 out of a walk-in closet in the Yorkfield Presbyterian Church. Concerned church members sought to provide food assistance to struggling neighbors in the area. At that time, the pantry was able to serve about 25 families per week. As demand increased, so did the need for a new food pantry. Where We Are Now EYFP opened the doors to its new 2,500 square-foot facility on January 2, 2016. Our ADA-compliant building offers our clients a welcoming and dignified shopping environment. EYFP is open during four shopping shifts per week, including evening and Saturday opportunities. Just like a grocery store, our clients can choose the food items that match their family preferences. We offer nutritious choices like meat, dairy, produce, and bread in addition to a large variety of non-perishable items & personal care products. In October 2023, EYFP expanded into 6,000 square feet of additional warehouse space. This allows us to properly store additional perishable and frozen products to keep pace with the ever-increasing number of families needing assistance. Our client population is diverse – those unemployed or under employed and finding it difficult to make ends meet, single parents with little or no support, senior citizens on fixed incomes, those with disabilities, and those dealing with medical issues. During FY2023, EYFP served over 700 households each month which translates to 3,000 individuals. EYFP also provides monthly grocery delivery to a low-income senior living community and a monthly mobile food pantry that serves 120 families from our refrigerated box truck.
