Mission Statement
Heart of Texas Pregnancy Resource Center (HTPRC) is located in east Austin. We serve those who are most “at risk” in our community with positive solutions concerning unexpected pregnancies and with resources that will encourage these new young families to succeed. We offer compassionate care to each of our clients, regardless of their decisions.
About This Cause
The goal of the Heart of Texas Pregnancy Resource Center is to save babies. All activities, efforts and resources given from both our Dripping Springs and east Austin locations point that direction. The community we serve through our east Austin location encompasses 14 neighborhoods in Austin east of I-35, north of the Colorado River, west of U.S. Highway 183 and south of 51st Street. Within these boundaries live approximately 70,000 people, 70 percent of whom are Hispanic or black, some in neighborhoods with 60 percent or more of residents living below the poverty line. We served 1,234 women in 2013, our first full year of operation, and our efforts will focus on increasing that number in 2014. Our clients invariably are in need of financial, emotional and spiritual support as they wrestle with decisions regarding their pregnancies. They often feel frightened and alone, and it is our challenge to convince them they have support. We pay particular attention to women who are considering abortion as an option. We track data on our clients in a specialized pregnancy center database and then track them over recurring visits. At the end of the year, we know how many women changed their minds. We opened our second location -- at 1005 W. HIghway 290 in Dripping Springs, in November of 2016 and look forward to serving women living in that rapidly growing suburban Austin area. A child born – and not aborted – represents a lasting, meaningful change, in the child’s life, the mother’s, the family’s and the community’s. The effort to guide mothers to life-affirming choices for their unborn is not a battle, it’s a siege. It’s not a one-year goal, it’s the goal every year. Successes are measured, and celebrated, one mother at a time, one child at a time. Our long-term goal is to develop a neighborhood hub bustling with activity: inflow and outflow of supplies, scheduled tightly with classes taught by skilled, knowledgeable instructors, and boasting a corps of eager volunteers working one-on-one with a steady influx of clients.
