Mission Statement
Supporting women as they transition from homelessness to a self-sustaining life by ensuring access to daily essentials which restores hope and dignity to women experiencing homelessness by reminding them they matter by reconnecting them to their “inner diva”.
About This Cause
There are an estimated 11,751 individuals experiencing homelessness. 32% of these individuals are adults with minors or dependents, many of whom (71%) do not have access to any shelter whatsoever. Our healing and wellness services remove common barriers for families experiencing homelessness by providing low-barrier access to healing and restorative workshops, access to health care services including direct connection to DfD’s on-site healing and restorative wellness monthly workshop and skill building classes. We also provide referrals to emergency shelters and permanent housing including new move-in supplies and personal care items and furniture. Our approach is centered around compassion and non-judgement, which facilitates trust and gives dignity. It is our experience that most individuals who are at risk and who have experienced homelessness have been exposed to and are currently experiencing trauma. Trauma and homelessness are deeply interlinked and the only effective strategy to address it is through healing and self-care servicing. Our Healing and Wellness platform enables us to cultivate an ongoing relationship with families experiencing homelessness. DfD’s continuum of care and broader programming ensuring clients have access to our programming knowing that it will provide access to intensive case management and meaningful engagement, removing the social exclusion and isolation that many who experience homelessness often feel. This is the type of support needed to successfully transition to a home, regain stability and remain housed We currently partner with over 15 emergency shelters and transitional housing providers. We extend our housing diversion plan and wellness services to clients who are referred to our program.
