Mission Statement
Friends of Portland Adult Education (FPAE) was formed as an independent 501 ©3 in 2012 to support adult learners to reach their educational and employment goals by raising resources, increasing and promoting collaboration with community organizations.
About This Cause
Friends of Portland Adult Education supports the critical work of Portland Adult Education. Portland Adult Education (PAE) is the largest adult education program in Maine where students strive to improve their academic and workforce skills to strengthen their roles as citizens, taxpayers and employees. PAE’s comprehensive educational programming encompasses 7 core areas: Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language, High School Completion, College Transitions, Enrichment courses, Jobs Skills and the New Mainers Resource Center. PAE serves over 6,000 Portland residents of whom: • 1,993 were immigrants registered in academic or English Languages classes. • 185 students achieved their high school credentials. • Over 450 were academic students enrolled in Math and Language Arts. • 40 students were in The College Transitions program. • The Job Skills program issued 45 Office Skills certificates and more than 100 Certified Nursing Assistant credentials. • 300 students were served by The New Mainer’s Resource Center through case management, credential evaluation, and a continuum of courses to prepare individuals for the US Workplace.
