Mission Statement
Sister of NEW Pre-Apprenticeship of South Florida Corporation (Non-Traditional Employment for Women) has developed an innovative initiative for providing apprenticeship, and training in nontraditional occupations for female veterans, low income women, and women on welfare.Sister of NEW Pre-Apprenticeship of South Florida (Sister Of NEW), main goal is to get low income women off of government assistance and place them in the workforce. The goal of the program is to provide occupational training construction skills and on-the-job-experience as well as basic educational services and workplace specific counseling. The target population for Sister of NEW, program is the community's most economically, occupationally, and educationally disadvantaged young women, and single mothers. ● Increasing women's access to nontraditional jobs is a compelling strategy for family economic self-sufficiency for several reasons. ● Most importantly, compared to jobs that are traditional for women, nontraditional jobs can provide better wages Sister Of NEW is not only a construction training program for women, but also a new fresh way to help the homelessness: Consider SoNEW Pocket homes the first step into housing. Even the name SoNEW Pocket homes was created to stay away from the negativity that comes from the word shelter.We cannot fix homelessness using the same tactics that have been in place for years. Pocket homes will help transform homeless people that have been in the streets for years. Most homeless people grew accustomed to their freedom, therefore making it difficult to live or get help from shelters. During their training, students of Sister Of NEW will be helping build the Pocket Home Village, keeping the cost of labor very low and giving the students hands-on training, they need to complete their training. Sister Of NEW is not only a construction training program for women, but also a new fresh way to HELP homelessness.

Even the name SoNEW Pocket homes was created to stay away from the negativity that comes from the word shelter. We cannot fix homelessness using the same tactics that have been in place for years. Pocket homes will help transform homeless people that have been in the streets for years. Most homeless people grew accustomed to their freedom, therefore making it difficult to live or get help from shelters. • The number complaint of homeless people wanting to seek help is RULES. Giving a person that has been free for years, curfew, removing them from their pets, and sometimes separating them from their loved one, it is not working to end homelessness. • Housing spends millions a year on housing, it’s not working, people have changed since these rules were implemented, and instead of changing rules they add new ones making it impossible to really get the help they need. • SoNEW Pocket homes is a gated community created in the form of outdoor camp, the bathroom will be in the middle of the surrounding SoNEW Pocket homes which is just a room, design like house with front porch, and backyard. • SoNEW Pocket homes will help the cost of housing, eliminating the cost of housing instead of paying a landlord first month’s rent, security etc. for a homeless person to get overwhelm, pressured, and scared, making them run back into the streets. Sometimes even destroying the property causing housing millions of dollars on repairs. SoNEW Pocket homes will help by sending only those that have shown interest and are truly trying to change their lives. SoNEW Pocket homes will not enforce: • Curfews, this is the United States of America Land of the Free for everyone!! • No pets allowed, this rule is insane have we not learned by now, pets are the only family they know. • No couples allowed, again this does not make sense, if two people can survive the streets together making each other’s support system why would you want to take this away. Our goal is to help reform the mindset of the homeless person, we know there will be challenges, and we are more than prepared to handle them. My name is Luisa Ines Ortiz, I was raised in Brooklyn Coney Island projects. Not only did I grow up around homeless people and walk by them every day. I spoke to them, I feed them I did this as a child. Growing up I heard of shelters and wonder why they are still in the streets, just like everyone else I assumed they didn’t want the help. Then I became an adult and found myself surrounded by people I grew up with, that I went to school with, homeless. For years I have heard the same thing, over, and over again, “I’m not going to the shelters they have TOO many RULES!!!”
