At Crossroad Family Center, our mission is to empower families and individuals through inclusive programs that nurture the mind, body, and spirit. By integrating sports, arts, education, and behavioral health, we provide a welcoming environment where every step taken is a step toward personal growth, community connection, and lasting change. Together, we build a stronger, healthier, and more unified community for generations to come.
About This Cause
The Crossroad Family Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and dba of The Von Der Becke Academy Corp., is dedicated to addressing systemic inequities in education, health, and housing. Over the past 20 years, our organization has focused primarily on research and development to refine a comprehensive, community-driven model for empowering families and improving lives. Within the last year, we have established operations in Storm Lake, Iowa, with our first large-scale facility, which serves as the cornerstone of our work in this region. In addition to Storm Lake, we provide support to other domestic communities facing similar challenges. Problem and Solution Storm Lake is a diverse yet underserved community with a significant low-income, minority, and immigrant population. Challenges such as inequitable access to education, gaps in wellness services, and housing instability continue to affect families' ability to thrive. The Crossroad Family Center offers an innovative, integrated solution: 1. Education: The Homeschool+ program supports children requiring alternatives to traditional public schooling by providing technology, free books, and personalized learning environments. 2. Health: Wellness programs include fitness opportunities, mental health services, and access to nutritious foods to address community health disparities. 3. Housing: Transitional housing resources offer stability for families experiencing housing insecurity. Our systemic approach addresses the root causes of these issues, fostering lasting change for families in Storm Lake and other domestic locations. Impact The Center’s efforts are guided by 20 years of research and are tailored to meet the specific needs of the communities we serve: • Unique, Equity-driven Approach: Programs are designed with community input, ensuring cultural relevance and sustainability. • Proven Models: Since launching in Storm Lake, we’ve already begun serving families annually through tailored education, health, and housing solutions. • Measurable Results: Success is tracked through metrics such as improved academic outcomes, enhanced mental and physical health, and reduced housing insecurity. Building on a foundation of research and early-stage implementation, our programs are driving tangible outcomes and paving the way for scalable solutions. Scale Our vision is to create a replicable model of community transformation that can be applied to underserved areas across the U.S. By addressing systemic barriers to education, health, and housing, we aim to build stronger, more equitable communities. To achieve this vision, we will: • Expand Impact: Grow our operations in Storm Lake while extending support to other domestic locations. • Secure Sustainable Funding: Combine grant support, community contributions, and earned revenue to sustain and expand our work. • Strengthen Infrastructure: Invest in facilities, staffing, and partnerships to meet the growing needs of the communities we serve. Our current focus is on operational costs such as program delivery, staffing, and facility maintenance. As we scale, we will prioritize investments in new infrastructure and team expansion to ensure sustainable growth.
