About This Cause
What is the Christmas Wish Project of Tarrant County? Giving hope to foster children in our community The Christmas Wish Project began in 1989 when friends made an effort to help a single foster parent in need during the holidays. Today, the CWP works to give every foster child in Tarrant County his or her personal “Christmas Wish,” a treasured gift under the tree to open on Christmas morning. CWP is a volunteer 501.c3 nonprofit, no-frills project with 100 percent of donations going toward the mission. We work under the guidance of “Keep it simple … Don’t lose focus.” For two months out of the year, CWP operates without salaries, insurance, office space, supplies or even a post office box, to give Tarrant County foster children the best Christmas possible. There’s no middleman or overhead costs. The Tarrant County & DFW Foster Parents Associations and the staffs of C.P.S., O.C.O.K., My Chosen Ones and dozens of placement agencies get CWP information distributed to the foster parents. The parents then fill out an online form about their child and their child’s wish. CWP volunteers search for, purchase, and organize those wishes to be distributed in time for Christmas morning. Through generous supporters, CWP establishes its base in a donated warehouse to organize purchases and gift pick-ups. Savvy CWP shoppers utilize every coupon, credit card offer, and connection to stretch donations to the fullest. Gifts are available for pick up by the foster parents’ weeks before Christmas, allowing them to play Santa with their foster children on Christmas Day, just like a real family. The idea is simple. Help foster parents make precious, long-lasting memories for their foster child. While many of the children wish for their first bike and older teens wish for gift certificates to buy stylish clothing for themselves, the result is the same: foster children enjoying a simple childhood rite of passage that many of us take for granted. In 2018, CWP granted wishes for more than 800 foster children … it keeps growing every year and there’s no sign of slowing down. With your generosity, CWP can continue making a difference in the lives of foster children across the region. In the spirit of giving, Becky L.
