Mission Statement
At Transplant Life Foundation, it is our mission every day to support, serve and advocate for transplant recipients, donor families, living donors, future recipients and others in the transplant community with programs and educational materials to enhance and improve their lives. Our initiatives bring together a diverse audience who experiences demonstrate the impact of donation and transplantation and increase public awareness of the advances in the medical and pharmaceutical industries. Lastly, we work hard to broaden and expand the national and state donor registries by encouraging the public to register to be a donor.
About This Cause
The Transplant Life Foundation, founded in 2011, is the nation’s leading advocacy group for those in the donation and transplantation world-- transplant recipients, living donors, donor families, patients on the national and state waiting lists, transplant professionals and supporters. As the primary educational and social networking hub for the transplant community, the organizing body for the Transplant Games of America and the publisher of TransplantNATION magazine, Transplant Life Foundation works hard every day to enhance and improve the lives of our members. Transplant Life Foundation works alongside the American Society of Transplantation, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, Donate Life America, the 58 procurement organizations, and over 250 transplant centers located across the U.S. Together, we serve thousands of patients, both national and international, that receive transplants or provide organs each year. After working closing with our partner organizations, recipients, donor families and living donors over the last decade, Transplant Life Foundation is even more committed to: - Advocating for the transplant community and connecting donors, recipients, transplant professionals, donor families and supporters. - Building awareness of the amazing medical advances in organ donation & transplantation. - Highlighting the importance of organ and tissue donations. - Encouraging all adults to join their state and national donor registries. - Publishing TransplantNATION magazine and other regular communication. - Managing and overseeing the biennial Transplant Games of America. Each day, 22 people die waiting for a transplant. Every 10 minutes, another person is added to the waiting list. Currently, there are 113,000 people waiting for lifesaving transplants in the U.S. The United States may be the world leader in organ donation and transplantation, but there is still much work to be done to reduce the number of those waiting for a lifesaving organ. At Transplant Life Foundation, we work hard to support, serve and advocate for transplant recipients, living donors and donor families, while at the same time, connecting them to one another through the Games and other programs to support and uplift each other. We also focus on educating those outside of our community, so that the public understands the importance of organ donation, how the registry works and how they can become a part of our community through state and national donor registries. Our hope is to save countless lives each year by making organ donation a norm for the American people. The gift of life is a true sacrifice but can impact so many lives. The Transplant Games were founded in 1990 and have been held every other year since, in various cities around the United States. The 2018 Games were held in Salt Lake City, Utah from August 2-7 and brought together over 8,500 recipients, living donors, donor families, patients on the national and state waiting lists, transplant professionals, supporters and spectators for a truly unique and inspiring week. Over the course of six days, 43 state teams and 2 international teams, comprised of transplant recipients & living donors, competed in 20 athletic and recreational competitions. In addition to the competitions, there were a number of ancillary events held throughout the Games meant for all attendees to enjoy. These events served as meaningful opportunities for donor families, recipients, donors and professionals to engage with one another and share their stories. The upcoming 2020 Games has now been moved to July 16th-21st in Northern New Jersey and this will be our boldest and best Games to date! We are expecting 12,000 individuals from the donation and transplant community to join us! TransplantNATION is a 68-page, bi-monthly magazine that works to connect and support the growing audience in the United States who are in the organ donation and transplantation world. TransplantNATION magazine is a full-featured publication with interesting stories of everyday heroism, heartfelt sacrifice and articles on healthy living, new beginnings and industry activity. This magazine includes stories of donors who gave others another chance at life and tales of recipients who are anxious to show their donor families what their gift means to them. TransplantNATION connects all the unique groups that make up the transplant community. It provides recipients, donors, dialysis patients and so many others with the knowledge, hope and connection they deserve. With each issue, we touch more lives with inspiring stories, educational information and the idea that they are not alone in their journey.
