Mission Statement
Microsoft employees are joining forces with local community members, local tech companies, and a non profit organization (PRAWS) in Washington State to help expedite relief efforts for the Victims of Hurricane Maria. We are calling this movement Puerto Rico We Care
About This Cause
In response to the unprecedented disaster left by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, Microsoft employees joined forces with the local community and a local non-profit in Washington state with the goal of supporting smaller towns and communities in Puerto Rico that have yet to receive aid - or who have yet to receive sufficient aid. Puerto Rico We Care is an umbrella organization consisting of about 100 volunteers from the Puget Sound community (including employees from Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, Costco and other local tech companies). Together with the Puerto Rican Association of Washington State (PRAWS), we are aiming to find creative ways to expedite relief efforts and promptly support of the victims of Hurricane Maria. In the last few weeks alone we have secured 1 shipping container which Costco donated!!! We are filling up in the upcoming days with: 1,500 pounds of medical supplies donated by Seattle’s Children Hospital 7,000 pounds of solar panels donated by Sun Electronics in Kent 26K+ pounds of donations that have been gathered from our community In addition, we are in partnership is with Amazon Smile and we are negotiating a program to have Amazon match every purchase we make via our non profit. In this example: a Microsoft employee (YOU), offers a donation to PRAWS via GIVE portal. Once Microsoft matches, we could purchase items via Amazon Smile and have Amazon match the purchased item. In essence, a $200 donation by a Microsoft employ could turn into an $800 value to the victims of Hurricane Maria! That is one example of the kind of contribution that is only possible by becoming together as a community to provide micro relief efforts! We are very excited about the creative ways in which we will support the victims of Hurricane Maria. Thank you so much for considering to help!!!
