Mission Statement
Making books a birthright for East Bay Babies. We run a Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (IL) Program for children under age 5 in the San Francisco East Bay. IL Books are a gift to the child to whom they are addressed and delivered by USPS; there is no cost to recipient families for the IL Program.
About This Cause
Owning books from birth is the most effective, efficient and joyful way to ensure the roots of literacy are planted and nurtured. Dolly Parton's Imagination Library books are new, carefully selected, and age-appropriate: Joy at the mailbox month after month. It is important that IL books are addressed to the child, who owns them, because they own them and because toddlers are highly motivated to learn to read THEIR name on the mailing label - a first step putting them solidly on the path to literacy. We are an Imagination Library Partner because literacy for all our children is good for all of us. We register children for IL and pay for books to them along with all costs of operating a nonprofit organization. IL eligibility is determined ONLY by the child's age and home address: they must be under age 5 & live in a region served by an IL Partner. NO other questions may be asked to determine eligibility to be enrolled. We love that. We agree with Dolly: "You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children." Please join us and Dolly in that happy, never ending effort. Donate today.
