Mission Statement
Founded in 2012, Wildwood Farm Sanctuary and Preserve has a mission to protect animals, preserve nature, and inspire change. Our sanctuary is a life-long haven for more than 100 animals rescued from cruelty and neglect in agriculture and is the first farm sanctuary in Oregon to earn accreditation status from the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries. GFAS certification is a rigorous process in which organizations demonstrate the highest standard of animal care, safety, fiscal responsibility, and governance.
About This Cause
At Wildwood, our motto is "Promoting compassion, protecting nature, and inspiring change." Here, everyone from the forest newts to the deer and bobcats, the field mice, the owls, the chickens and goats, to Sam the Cat, is loved. At Wildwood, ALL life is Wild, Free, and Loved. We are in the process of raising the funds to secure a forever home for our sanctuary so that it can continue to expand its mission and reach. Our most common requests are for public visits, school field trips, sanctuary tours, and educational events. Our new property will be owned and operated by our nonprofit organization and serve as a full-time sanctuary and resource center, providing the highest standard of sanctuary care for our animals while offering humans everything from cooking demonstrations to native plant workshops, lectures, tours, and social events. The sanctuary is currently located on the founder's property. After consecutive years of drought, we are facing increasing threats of wildfire and growing concerns about the capacity of the property's one well to continue to meet the needs of the sanctuary and the household. The property also, by virtue of it doubling as a family residence, has limited capacity to meet the requests we most often receive---requests for tours, visits, and educational opportunities. Thanks to a generous donor who pledged $250,000, we have a significant portion of the estimated $800,000 we will need to secure a new property. That property will be near the Portland metro area and will have the capacity to house our growing number of animal rescues while serving as a hub for people who want to learn about farmed animal issues, humane lifestyle choices, coexistence with native wildlife, or restoration of native plants.
