About This Cause

Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange (SVBE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives through cycling. Founded in 1993, SVBE began as a repair service for clients of the Mountain View Community Services Agency. Today, we operate a community bike shop in Palo Alto, California, where we refurbish donated bicycles and provide bicycle repair training. Our mission is twofold: to provide accessible transportation options for those in need and to foster a community of cycling enthusiasts. We achieve this by donating over 850 bicycles annually to local organizations serving underprivileged populations, including veterans, youth, and low-income families. Simultaneously, we offer a welcoming space for volunteers to learn bike repair skills and contribute to our community's well-being. Through our shop, educational programs, and community partnerships, SVBE aims to make cycling a viable and enjoyable mode of transportation for everyone.
