Mission Statement
The Pittsburgh Hispanic Development Corporation (PHDC) is a community development corporation with no geographic boundaries, focusing on racial equity in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. We are dedicated to improving the lives of Hispanics in the region, increasing the Hispanic population, supporting existing and new Hispanic businesses, and increasing Hispanic investment in the region.
About This Cause
The PHDC supports Community and Economic Development by advancing the economic, business, and housing opportunities of an underrepresented demographic group, increasing economic activity in a neighborhood ready for the transition, and by building the capacity of a community to carry development forward. Sustaining and accelerating the growth of the Pittsburgh region can only be accomplished through the promotion of diversity and racial equity, and that is the mission of the PHDC and this project. PHDC manages and administers a unique Business Incubator since it includes intercultural tutoring and training for our entrepreneurs. This advice and training is an essential component in the success of our companies doing business in the United States. For example, PHDC will offer its services in Spanish and Portuguese in addition to English. As of September 2020, PHDC has assisted 97 Entrepreneurs to plan and launch, or to accelerate their businesses. The housing initiative of the Pittsburgh Hispanic Development Corporation is a collaborative effort between PHDC and real estate companies/landlords to facilitate access to the rental market for our community. We work with realtors to find places for individuals and families, along with helping to arrange private financing. As of September 2020, PHDC has facilitated 39 families to rent or buy a house. The Pittsburgh Hispanic Development Corporation is a Community and Economic Development organization focusing on opportunities for employment, advancement and overall improved quality of living of an underrepresented demographic group. Our employment program provides assistance to members of the community seeking employment due to relocation to Pittsburgh from another country, state or city. Our Employment Services are normally in the following categories: • Job Listing • Resume Creation & Review • Interview Preparation • Job Application Assistance • Background Check & Medical Tests • Appointments Set Up • Follow Up As of September 2020, PHDC has assisted 21 individuals to connect with employment. Furthermore, during COVID-19 PHDC has been an important asset to the Hispanic Community in Pittsburgh. Business owners and households have been struggling with many unexpected emergencies, many of them related to reduction of work hours or loss of employment. Many business entrepreneurs have been forced to close their businesses temporarily given the pandemic of COVID-19. PHDC has been able to raise emergency financial funds to help households pay late rents, business to pay insurance policies, business rents, and emergencies fund needed to reactivate businesses. The Hispanic Corporation has been able to avoid more than 30 evictions, thanks to the funds raised to support the Hispanic community in Pittsburgh. As of September, the Hispanic Corporation has been able to extend financial assistance to 20 entrepreneurs to have the necessary funds to maintain or reactivate their businesses during covid-19. PHDC also has extended financial assistance to 47 households to pay rent. Additionally, the Hispanic Corporation has been providing assistance to 105 households to apply for Rent Assistance under the CARES ACT program. Currently, 60 applications have been completed and more are in progress. The Pittsburgh Hispanic Development Corporation plays an important role in community and economic development in Pittsburgh. The organization is fulfilling its mission but we need financial support. There are more people that need assistance than funds we can receive. We kindly ask that you consider making a donation. Thank you for your support!
