Mission Statement
Our Mission: To create hand-tied fleece cozies to provide warmth and comfort to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy Our Vision: To offer guidance and support for individuals and community groups wishing to create blankets and provide comfort to others during a difficult time
About This Cause
Cozies 4 Chemo was started by 12 year old Meghan Vizzard in March of 2012. The idea started when she made a blanket for her 19 year old cousin who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and faced with 9 weeks of aggressive chemotherapy treatments. Meghan made her first “Cozie” for Katie. Meghan did not realize the warmth and comfort this small gift would provide until Katie told her that she used it every day during her chemotherapy treatments, and Katie asked Meghan to help her make a blanket for a friend that she met during her chemotherapy treatments. It was at that point that Meghan decided she wanted to make blankets for others going through the same kind of treatments, and she started planning the first Cozies 4 Chemo event. She spread the word through fliers and presentations to small groups she was involved with and to her classmates. She was able to raise over $1500 to purchase the materials needed and held an event in Medford, NJ where they made 116 blankets. These blankets were delivered to hospitals and local cancer centers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Since March 2012, many people and groups have gotten involved with helping Cozies 4 Chemo. Groups such as Brownie Troops, Honor Societies, Community Service Clubs, Student Councils, Religious Youth Groups, Corporations and the general public have organized their own events and made blankets. We have donated over 8000 blankets to hospitals, local cancer centers and to people throughout the United States when we receive personal requests to ship blankets. Our primary activities include 1) making blankets and distributing blankets to hospitals, cancer centers or individuals in order to provide some warmth and comfort to those diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment for such diagnosis, 2) encouraging and organizing group events which will produce “Cozies” that will then be distributed as described above.
