Mission Statement

Survivor Tails Animal Rescue is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that exists to rescue, rehome, and rehabilitate homeless, unwanted, abused, and neglected dogs and cats and place them in loving and responsible forever homes. We aim to decrease the euthanasia rates of our high-kill shelter partners by promoting adoption and educating the public on the importance of spaying/neutering and microchipping their pets. Lastly, we strive to maintain a network of dependable foster families, capable veterinarians, and experienced trainers to ensure preparedness of our rescued pets for healthy, fulfilling lives in their adoptive homes.

About This Cause

We are a 501(c)3-approved, fully volunteer and foster-based cat and dog rescue in Boston, MA. We pull dogs and cats from high-kill shelters, often in the south, where overpopulation is a major issue due to the lack of spay/neuter laws. We are not a shelter facility and rely wholly on a devoted foster family network to do our life-saving work. Once we commit to pulling an animal from the euthanasia list of a high-kill shelter, the animal must be fully vetted, fixed, and fostered locally for two weeks before getting a health certificate and allowed to cross state lines. We then pay for the transport of the animal from said state to New England where it goes directly into a mandatory 48-hour quarantine facility, in accordance with state law. From that point on, we rely on wonderful foster families to love and care for the animal until we find them their forever home. Which brings us to our next point: we are ALWAYS looking for wonderful foster families and volunteers to help us run our rescue. Without you, THERE WOULD BE NO SURVIVOR TAILS. Additionally, as an all-volunteer-based rescue, we rely WHOLLY on the donations of our generous supporters. Rescuing animals isn't as simple as picking them up from a shelter and dropping them into a home. Rescuing costs money, and sometimes, a lot of money. After pull fee, transport, vetting, fixing, quarantining, training (if applicable), and other expenses, there is little to no money left over from the adoption fees we receive. This is why donations are so critical. The more funds we receive, the more survivor tales we can create.
