Mission Statement
The purpose of Jackson Park Yacht Club Foundation (“JPYC Foundation”) is to provide outreach, education, training, support and resources necessary to engage young people and adults in boating and other activities on and around the water, including non-traditional participants in boating activities. Located on the South side of Chicago, the JPYC Foundation offers sailing programs for, among others, disadvantaged youth.
About This Cause
In order to combat the dramatic increase in youth and gun violence in Chicago, including where it is located in South Shore and the surrounding neighborhoods that have been particularly hard hit by such violence, the JPYC Foundation offers youth sailing programs. The Open Horizons Youth Sailing Program is a free program that targets low-income, minority, at-risk/disadvantaged children and youth. In addition to participating in a 2 week sailing program, students will learn leadership, teamwork and conflict resolution skills through sailing. Students are selected on an application basis through applications available on our website. The JPYC Foundation also offers a limited number of scholarships available for students with financial need through the Jimmy Webb Youth Sailing Scholarship Fund to pay for sailing lessons. Recipients are selected on an application basis through applications available on our website.
