Mission Statement
Rainforest Connection’s mission is to develop and leverage conservation technology to empower partners to protect threatened ecosystems from illegal activities and monitor for biodiversity.
About This Cause
Rainforest Connection (RFCx) harnesses the power of sound to protect rainforests form illegal logging and preserve wildlife around the world. By using real-time acoustic monitoring devices to listen to rainforests remotely, their AI & ML systems transform audio streams into a profound and automatic understanding of forest soundscapes. RFCx is able to monitor illegal activities and extract important information about the biodiversity of ecosystems on a large scale. Rainforests are being destroyed at an alarming rate. Experts estimate that 1.5-2.5 million hectares are deforested each year, and up to 90% of all logging in tropical rainforests is illegal. The time for action is now. RFCx is able to protect against worsening climate change by guarding one of the world's largest carbon sinks, forests. By doing so they can protect hundreds of species from extinction/vulnerability. They're able to support and fortify healthy and balanced ecosystems by listening, learning, and halting disruptive or devastating activity to natural cycles. This allows forests to continue their ability to provide necessary ecosystem services proving essential to life within the confines of the trees and to every living being beyond. RFCx’s work supports communities of people that rely on forests for their livelihoods ensuring their cultures, people and existence don’t fade into the destruction of forests. From the air we breathe, to some of the food we eat, and the incredible wonders these places hold, all of it falls on humanity’s success or failure to protect and preserve these areas. We can hear a better tomorrow, and we can all play a part in creating that future, together.
