ANTI-RECIDIVISM COALITION

LOS ANGELES, California, 90021 United States

Mission Statement

The Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) works to end mass incarceration in California. To ensure our communities are safe, healthy, and whole, ARC empowers formerly and currently incarcerated people to thrive by providing a support network, comprehensive reentry services, and opportunities to advocate for policy change. Through our grassroots policy advocacy, we are dedicated to transforming the criminal justice system so that it is more just and equitable for all people.

About This Cause

To accomplish its mission, ARC advocates for fair policies in the juvenile and criminal justice systems, and provides services, support and opportunities to currently and formerly incarcerated individuals. ARC serves as a support network and connection to services for its membership of more than 225 formerly incarcerated individuals. To ensure that members succeed, ARC provides mentoring, case management, education assistance, internships, employment opportunities, trauma therapy, regular support meetings and supportive housing opportunities. Members develop a life plan and commit to living crime-free, gang-free and drug-free; enrolling in school, working or actively searching for employment; and being of service to the community and the Coalition. ARC’s model of support focuses on addressing the root causes of criminal behavior, including a history of trauma and/or substance abuse, association with delinquent peers, and a lack of involvement in school, work and one’s community. In addition to providing support, ARC empowers formerly incarcerated members to become advocates for justice system reform. ARC organizes policy trainings providing members with information and tools to become successful advocates for change. Then, ARC creates opportunities for members to share their stories with local and state policymakers. Members serve as ambassadors to show lawmakers what is possible when formerly incarcerated individuals receive adequate investment and support. ARC’s policy advocacy and awareness efforts aim to reduce crime, decrease the use of incarceration, improve reentry outcomes, and increase investment in the people and communities most impacted by crime and incarceration.
