Mission Statement
VOCEL’s mission is to help ensure every child has the foundation to learn, grow and lead. Grounded in research and powered by a passion for teaching, we provide families in underserved communities free access to high-quality early learning programs. Through innovative, community-based programs, we empower parents/caregivers with the knowledge and support to be the first and best teacher to the young children in their care. Our core program, the Child Parent Academy, capitalizes on the early brain development window through a two-generation model that invests in both child and parent/caregiver. With strong, measurable outcomes, the Child Parent Academy ensures that more young children have bright futures; thus, promising a better Chicago as we continue to scale and grow the program's impact.
About This Cause
If we know the first years of life are absolutely critical to the development of all children, why isn’t early learning more widely available in all communities? VOCEL was founded in 2013 to challenge that very question and champion this fundamental right. Through innovative, research-based programs, such as the Child Parent Academy, VOCEL is changing the status quo for early learning by providing high-quality support to young children and the adults and environments that impact them. In September 2016, VOCEL launched the VOCEL Child Parent Academy, a 10-month early learning accelerator for both children and their parents. The Child Parent Academy ensures that young children can become preschool ready and empowers their parents/caregivers with the knowledge and resources to support their children in their future academic and life endeavors. Demonstrated results indicate that the Child Parent Academy is a game-changer for children and families. In 2018, the scalability of the Child Parent Academy model and shifts in the early learning funding landscape led VOCEL to strategically focus on the expansion of the program. The Child Parent Academy has grown from 40 participants in 2016 to serving 300 young children and parents. It has proven to be a game-changer for families. Today, the Child Parent Academy bridges a critical access gap for families in under-resourced communities impacted by disinvestment and poverty. VOCEL’s innovative programs continue to set a new standard for how to capitalize on the earliest, and, arguably, most important, years of a child’s life.
