Mission Statement

Catering to Africans In Need (CAIN) is a 501c3 registered non-profit organization committed to empowering underprivileged African children with quality education and skills to break from the vicious cycle of poverty and compete on a global scale.

About This Cause

CAIN Africa is a dynamic, community-based, youth-led organization committed to empowering underprivileged children and youth in underserved African communities with quality education and skills to break from poverty and compete globally. Founded in 2013 by May Oghenerukeme Asagba in response to the deteriorating state of education in Nigeria, CAIN has emerged as a beacon of hope for educational equity. Our flagship achievement is the establishment of the CAIN Educational Resource Center in Alimosho, Lagos State's largest local government area, which is home to over 2 million residents. This groundbreaking center offers a diverse range of programs, including a daily tutorial program for secondary school students, a fully equipped community library, digital skills development, a career enrichment program, mentorship initiatives, and other education-focused activities - all at no cost. Beyond this, we've made significant strides in combating educational inequality across Africa. Through strategic partnerships, we've provided educational resources to under-resourced schools, established the first primary school in a remote village, and delivered soft skills training to youth across the continent. Over the years, our efforts have positively impacted over 10,000 lives. The strength of CAIN lies in our team—a small but exceptionally skilled and diverse group committed to development. Our Founder/CEO, an Ivy League graduate and SDG4 Youth Advocate with UNESCO, has over a decade of experience working with children and youth in underserved communities across two continents. Our team’s expertise spans program management, communications, education, and digital skills training. CAIN Africa has become synonymous with an exceptional, community-based approach to educating the underserved and transforming lives through a blend of innovation and compassion. Our work has garnered attention from renowned organizations such as BBC News, Clinton Global Initiative, UNESCO, and Business Day and has led to partnerships with prestigious organizations including Jobberman, Metanoia Africa, Davis Projects for Peace, and Cornell University. These collaborations, along with support from employee-giving programs, have enabled us to offer free, high-quality education to underprivileged students. By removing financial barriers and providing close-to-home education, our holistic community-based approach ensures that quality learning is accessible to all.
