Mission Statement
In two years, Columbus Songwriters Association has become the largest songwriter organization in the Midwest. We were founded by Joey Hendrickson, Derek DuPont, and a group of 25 songwriters at a coffee shop on October 21, 2012. In August 2014, CSA registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, public charity. Through its founders and volunteers, CSA is building the value network that supports the creative lives of musicians throughout Columbus and The Midwest.
About This Cause
MISSION Columbus Songwriters Association strengthens the arts and music community in Columbus and The Midwest, through innovative opportunities and resources that help independent musicians and songwriters get paid. We educate and protect the interests of independent musicians through programs that help them learn, develop, and be relevant amidst the changes in the music industry. We believe in Columbus as the cultural and economic destination for new growth in independent music, and we are committed to attracting and retaining creative value in our home. Through collaboration with musicians, businesses, and arts organizations, our effort brings purpose to, and creates new value for, independent musicians in The Midwest. PROGRAMS Our programs build up the arts and culture in The Midwest by uniting musicians and the creative class in performance, promotion, publishing, physical distribution, and pedagogy efforts. Through CSA Songwriter Showcases, we have provided 15,000 song critiques to songwriters. Each year, our Finale Showcase attracts music publishers, hit songwriters, music supervisors, or producers to Columbus, to hear some of the finest songwriters in The Midwest. Our original documentary, Music Publishing In The Wild West, will be released in late 2014. Through interviews with experts in the music industry, this documentary will educate songwriters who are in the dark about how music publishing really works today. SERVICES CSA works closely with music venues, recording studios, production companies, local stores, music festivals, and other organizations to help songwriters maximize their budgets on the essentials, and earn real opportunities for gigs, development, and promotion. Our value network empowers songwriters to create, perform, and pursue new value, collaborations, and cultural innovation. We invite songwriters to share and connect at Songwriter Circles, and we even bring in award winning songwriters and music industry leaders to Columbus for CSA Workshops. Through Local Music Shelf, we are helping musicians sell and display independent music in stores, restaurants, and businesses all around Columbus, Ohio. EVENTS In 2014, CSA organized performances for major festivals like Central Ohio Folk Music Festival, Fashion Meets Music Festival, Oktoberfest Columbus, Old Hilliard Fest, Independents Day, and other community events like For You & Me at Easton Town Center, Easton Farmers Market, and MADE Local Marketplace.
