About This Cause
Tech Journey inspires youth to increase their knowledge and interest in technology by providing engaging learning opportunities led by volunteer tech professionals. Its mission is accomplished through the values of providing tools and knowledge for success, opening closed doors and committing to a journey with the students. Tech Journey's target student demographic focuses on underserved central Iowa youth as well as underrepresented groups in the tech industry such as females and minorities. Through our three primary programs of CoderDojoDSM, Tech Camp and YouthCode, we provide students with access to relevant content, professional mentors and instructors who have experience in their fields and the hardware and software necessary for students to explore and learn. Tech Camp is an immersive annual summer camp experience for students in grades 8 - 12 and the YouthCode program helps us expand our reach by introducing students ages 8 to 14 to coding and robotics. The CoderDojoDSM program provides ongoing mentoring of Tech Camp and YouthCode students beyond its activities as well as being an outreach opportunity for engaging new students. As the Tech Journey name implies, we commit to walking alongside students through the end of high school in order to maximize our impact and influence while helping students pursue a career or higher ed program in tech and mitigate the tech talent gap.
