Mission Statement

Our organization is dedicated to promoting the welfare of Colorado’s native lagomorphs (rabbits and hares) by providing rehabilitative services to injured, sick and orphaned animals, and by educating the public about how to coexist with these gentle creatures.

About This Cause

The Colorado Wild Rabbit Foundation was established in 2013. We are an all-volunteer organization located in Boulder County, Colorado. Our mission is to provide quality rehabilitative care for orphaned, sick, or injured wild lagomorph individuals, with the purpose of releasing them back to the wild and/or reducing their suffering. We also strive to educate the public about how to coexist with these gentle creatures. All operations related to animal care are conducted to the highest standards promulgated by the International Wildlife Rehabilitators Council (IWRC), National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association (NWRA), or similar organizations, and in compliance with licenses and regulations issued by the State of Colorado and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service of the Department of the Interior, or subsequently created authorities. From our bylaws: CWRF will accept individual orphaned, sick, or injured animals from the public, from governmental entities, or from other wildlife rehabilitators/organizations to the extent allowed by limitations of capacity and expertise. CWRF will provide appropriate rehabilitative care to all animals entrusted to it. CWRF will provide appropriate husbandry, including food, water, and shelter, for all animals entrusted to it. CWRF will seek appropriate veterinary care as feasible and when necessary, for animals entrusted to it. CWRF will release animals, or arrange for their release, when they are fully rehabilitated, to sites consistent with regulations and knowledge of animal behavior. CWRF will euthanize animals, using the most humane practices, if it is determined that they would never be releasable back to the wild. CWRF will maintain its facilities (including indoor and outdoor caging) to the highest hygienic standards. CWRF will ensure that any persons working with the animals in its care have appropriate training, licensure, and/or supervision. CWRF will ensure that any lead rehabilitators maintain their knowledge and skills through appropriate continuing education. CWRF will promote broad public support for its activities commensurate with its needs and the needs of the community, including serving the community through consultations on wildlife issues
