About This Cause
The Last Mile originated in 2010 with its first program in San Quentin State Prison in California. Over the last decade, The Last Mile has leveraged the power of public-private partnerships with Departments of Corrections and industry-leading companies. Programs are currently operating in 7 states and 18 facilities across the United States. TLM offers educational programs to people who are incarcerated, also providing a scalable model for change in a prison system that is difficult to impact. TLM’s vocational training for high-demand jobs has proven to increase social mobility, open career pathways, and break the generational cycle of incarceration. TLM’s platform as a service (PaaS) includes remote video instruction, thoughtfully developed in-house developed curriculum served in our Learning Management System (LMS), and a suite of internally hosted web-based platforms to deliver in-prison programs. Post-release, TLM’s Reentry Department provides wrap-around, individualized support to program participants, ensuring that they are equipped with the tools and resources to help them overcome the challenges that lie ahead.
