Mission Statement

North Country Food Alliance is a worker-run non-profit that takes action to strengthen food sovereignty in the Twin Cities Metro Area. We do this by sharing healthy, culturally appropriate food; building community gardens; and reducing commercial and local food waste.

About This Cause

North Country Food Alliance collects overstock produce every weekday from local groceries, co-ops, farms, and wholesalers. Rather than letting perfectly good food go to waste, we deliver it to low-income areas in the Twin Cities; working with charities such as assisted living centers, community kitchens, and food shelves to make sure it reaches vulnerable populations. The food is always given away freely-- we never charge for our services! Access to food is a basic human right. We at NCFA believe that everyone should be empowered to choose the foods they want to eat. However, obtaining healthy, sustainable, and culturally relevant foods can be difficult for people facing systemic oppressions. In addition, fresh foods (which spoil relatively easily) are more difficult for food shelves and soup kitchens to carry. This is why North Country Food Alliance focuses on providing fresh produce to low-income communities.
