Mission Statement
Empower is a nonprofit with a very specific mission-to empower, support and connect children, teens, and young adults who have experienced the loss of a parent.
About This Cause
Empower was founded by Boston native Cara Belvin in 2013 as a grassroots movement and in an effort to bring teenage girls who had lost their mothers together on Mother’s Day. Today, Empower serves all boys, girls and nonbinary youth up through age 24 who have experienced the loss of their mother or father. Empower operates with a lean staff and thousands of volunteers and all programs remain at no charge to the family. Empower offers a one-of-a-kind mentor program with positive role models from the community and hosts year-round events that remind us we are never alone in our grief. Empower events are non-therapeutic, community-based, and volunteer-driven.
