Mission Statement
For Her builds equity for women by providing a network of support and responsive resources that promote self-sufficiency and holistic well-being.
About This Cause
For Her serves adult women and gender-expansive people interested in female-oriented services in Bexar County from underserved and minority communities. Most of our clients identify as racial or ethnic minorities, with 51% identifying as Hispanic or Latina. 55% of clients report being victims of crimes, including domestic violence, sexual assault, or trafficking. In 2021, 60% of clients reported an income of less than $15,000. 70% of the women we serve live in areas with an equity index score of 6 or higher, according to the City of San Antonio Equity Matrix, meaning they live in an area with a high concentration of minorities and low-income households. Individuals who live in these areas have lower access to health care, job stability, and education. Our programming consists of a series of skill development workshops, mentorship programs, and resource-sharing initiatives that address key aspects of women's lives, such as career advancement, financial literacy, mental health, and personal growth. By fostering a supportive environment, we aim to empower women to break barriers, realize their potential, and achieve sustainable self-sufficiency. Our services include: Empowerment Workshops: Workshops are offered bimonthly on topics including career development, mental and physical health, parenting, healthy relationships, and violence prevention and awareness. Support Groups: We host therapeutic support groups led by our licensed counselor to provide a safe place to connect with other survivors following victimization. We also host peer support groups led by staff and volunteers for emotional support, navigating challenging systems, and learning from multiple perspectives. Individual Advocacy: Through personalized one-on-one advocacy, our staff helps each woman overcome the barriers that stand between them and their success. Outcomes are as diverse as the women we serve but often include enrolling in school or securing employment. Counseling: For Her offers no-cost professional counseling by a licensed counselor to women who have experienced trauma and can otherwise not afford counseling services. Using trauma-informed principles, our therapist provides 12 sessions to each individual. Services are available at our newly expanded For Her Community Center. Babysitting is available onsite for group services. With over 50 local nonprofit partners, we aim to serve the whole person and ensure they have access to everything from basic necessities to high-net-worth networking that is sure to expand their career opportunities and celebrate their resiliency.
