About This Cause
C.A.R.E. is a not-for-profit corporation organized under Chapter 617 Fla. Stat. and designated a 501(c)(3) under the Internal Revenue Code. Our commitment is to support women and families living with gynecologic cancers and to educate those women who are most vulnerable, as well as their health care providers and the community. C.A.R.E. provides a monthly support group to survivors of gynecologic cancer, their families and other members of their support team. C.A.R.E. volunteers, who themselves are survivors, offer High Tea once a month to women currently in treatment at the Health First Cancer Institute. High Tea provides women and their families the opportunity to meet survivors - who themselves were patients - at the infusion center. They share experiences or just provide a smile and words of encouragement. (High Tea has been paused due to COVID.) A “Survivor’s Picnic” is hosted by C.A.R.E. each year. The event provides an opportunity for all survivors whether in treatment or not to gather together with other survivors and their families. It is a fun event to which nearly 100 people attend at the Nyami River Lodge/Brevard Zoo (paused due to COVID in 2020 and 2021). C.A.R.E. Volunteers and Board Members routinely distribute symptom cards for gynecologic cancers to physician practices, churches, and other community settings in order to raise awareness. C.A.R.E. Volunteers and Board Members supported and participated in The Sister Run©, created and organized in memory of a beloved sister to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and all gynecologic cancers. The event was held for seventeen years.
