Mission Statement
Our mission is to celebrate neurodiversity by creating access, cultivating skills and revolutionizing the workplace for all. Our Vision is an inclusive workplace where all people have an equal opportunity to thrive.
About This Cause
BroadFutures is a non-profit organization, incorporated in Washington, D.C. that serves young neurodiverse people with learning and related disabilities through a holistic training, mentoring and paid internship program. We serve young people from all over the country. BroadFutures employs an innovative approach to workforce preparedness that combines training with mentoring and workforce experience. Our program is specifically designed to enhance independence, self-confidence, self-advocacy skills and success. We have also now pivoted to the virtual space due to COVID 19 and offer virtual career and college readiness programs and individual support. Our training incorporates a holistic approach and we meet our diverse learners with a curriculum that is interactive, incorporates the arts and employs a highly effective support model that support both our interns and the employers we partner with as well as a stress reduction model. We provide our interns with an initial training, participants are placed into paid internships in professional office settings. The internships are designed to provide exposure and experience in a professional work environment and the opportunity to develop the skills and techniques that were introduced in training. A supervisor is assigned to each intern. The interns work Monday through Thursday and return to BroadFutures on Fridays for ongoing training to enforce the curriculum. Mentors are engaged to supervise, support and act as effective liaisons between interns, employers, and BroadFutures. The mentors provide the interns and employers with a critical resource and vehicle for effective communication to address intern success, expectations, and areas for improvement. Mentors also serve the important function of educating employers on the benefits of employing individuals with disabilities and how to do so successfully. Mentors spend considerable time with the interns on appropriate goal setting and development of strategies to achieve those goals. The mentors are supported in this work by an executive functioning/ADHD coach, who plays a significant role in ensuring that fulfillment of personal and BroadFutures program goals are systematically implemented and followed. Disabilities cross all racial, socio-economic, gender and age barriers. BroadFutures serves a population that reflects the diversity of the disability community. BroadFutures has an initiative to recruit and serve financially disadvantaged youth. The need is great and the consequences of not providing transition services to this population are grave
