Mission Statement
Overseas Volunteer for A Better India, Inc. is a 501(C)3, Non Profit Organization dedicated to rebuilding the 'India of Our Dreams'. We are Indians abroad who care for a better India. We are doctors, students, engineers, volunteers, business owners and everyday citizens coming together for the betterment of India. We believe that indifference of the masses is responsible for India’s current problems and we are committed to changing it & make a positive impact. We believe that no effort or contribution is small (Whether Time, Talent or Money) and if we all come together, our efforts will have a powerful impact in rebuilding the India of yore, where women felt safe, every kid had enough food, clothing and education. Where farmers were cared for, elders were respected and there was abundance and prosperity throughout the length and breadth of India.
About This Cause
Overseas Volunteer for a Better India (OVBI) launched in May 2013, is driven by a group of inspired NRIs ready to support initiatives in India and tackle issues the Indian community faces in the U.S. Our movement’s roots are grounded in the Volunteer for a Better India (VBI) movement. On February 3rd, 2013 more than 100,000 concerned citizens united at Ram Lila Maidan in New Delhi in response to rampant corruption, violence towards women, suicides and water shortages. On that day, in unison the group pledged to give 1 hour a day for the nation and to inspire millions of others to do so. And Volunteer for a Better India was born. OVBI is the overseas arm of Volunteer for Better India. We believe that every individual can make a meaningful impact and play a role in the betterment of the global Indian community. Together we can transform the world in a way that would make great leaders like Mahatma Ghandhi proud. We invite you to get involved. In a short time of just over 3 years, we have made an impact in many areas including: 1. Udaan (SHELTER, EDUCATION AND HOPE FOR AT-RISK CHILDREN OF SEX WORKERS) 2. Adopt A Village (Providing handicraft machinery & training to women, building roads, water tanks, river rejuvenation, light/lamps etc. to several villages) 3. India awareness education drives in US to help NRIs and their children with fun n facts on traditional Indian culture and history) 4. Technology Initiatives(President award winning - Voter registration App to help voters register from the comfort of their homes) 5. Provided support & advocacy to India and Indians worldwide 6. Actively participate in cultural and traditional events locally in many US cities 7. Supporting, ongoing, Institutional reform and systemic change in India 8. School of Good Governance initiative (Helping bring good governance to all levels of administration in India)
