Mission Statement
Wayward Whiskers Cat Rescue makes a difference in the lives of cats and people in San Antonio by providing assistance with food and medical care to feral colonies and fostering and treating cats with severe medical conditions from the city shelter.
About This Cause
Since our founding in 2012 we have rescued over 1,200 cats. We take medical cases from the City of San Antonio's Animal Care Services and place them in loving foster homes, where they are given top-notch medical care. When the cats are healthy and ready for adoption, we transfer them to the San Antonio Humane Society or Austin Pets Alive. In 2022 we partnered with the San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition and established the Wayward Whiskers Foundation, which offers assistance to feral colony caretakers for food and veterinary care. We distribute food on a quarterly basis to over 25 colonies and rely on donations from individuals and pet food companies. We are a small organization with very little overhead. Approximately 90% of the donations we receive go directly to the care of the cats. We feed high quality food and each cat that we take in is treated for their injury or illness, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested for FIV and feline leukemia, given a flea preventive and a dewormer, and microchipped before they are ready for adoption. We also have 12 lifetime foster cats that we care for at the Wayward shelter. These cats were never adopted either due to poor socialization or severe medical cases that an adopter would not be willing to take on.
