Mission Statement
"No Child Wet Behind" is a short summary of Nashville Diaper Connection's dream. Our mission is to ensure that every baby in Nashville has enough diapers to remain clean, dry and healthy. Our diaper bank provides emergency supplies of infant/toddler diapers for our most vulnerable neighbors. Meeting this critical need pays off. Babies living in healthier, lower stress environments are more likely to be happier, more successful citizens of Nashville when they are adolescents, teens and adults.
About This Cause
Diaper Need is the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep an infant or toddler clean, dry and healthy. Diaper Need impacts the physical, mental and economic well-being of children and their families. Unlike emergency "safety nets" for food, utilities, housing or medical care, there are no other consistent sources for this basic essential need. You cannot buy diapers with food stamps (SNAP), or Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) vouchers nor can they be purchased using your HSA/"flex spending" pre-tax dollars. Without diapers, mothers can not leave their babies at daycare. Without daycare, mothers can't work or go to school. Without work or education, the cycle of poverty continues. And it is not just those in poverty that are affected. Studies have shown that as many as one in three families in America struggle to provide diapers for their children. We are Nashville's only Diaper Bank and our mission is to provide emergency supplies of baby diapers to families that otherwise might not have them. Our Diaper Bank follows food bank practices to help struggling families but instead of food, we collect, purchase and donate baby diapers. We only do diapers. To date our "No Child Wet Behind" program has helped thousands of Nashville babies by providing over 13,500,000 diapers. All funds we receive are used to support our mission. Program expenses represent 90% of all our expenses. We have no professional fundraising arrangements nor do we promote anything other than addressing Diaper Need in Nashville. We partner with 60 established community service agencies in Middle Tennessee to distribute diapers to families in need. Partnering with those agencies allows us to focus on collecting and providing diapers without duplicating the overhead and client service practices already in place. Nashville Diaper Connection diapers have become a key part of our distribution partners' support to the families they serve. Our current partners include emergency food pantries, shelters for homeless families, needs based day care programs, domestic abuse shelters, community assistance programs, and visiting nurse programs. We also partner with TN Department of Children Services to provide diapers for their Safe Room and Metro Nashville Public Schools' Community Achieves program providing diapers for their Family Resource Centers.
