Mission Statement

We are a not-for-profit cultural organization, which provides a learning environment to engage with Bulgarian culture, traditions and language through music, singing and progressive education. Founded by Bulgarians, the organization was initially formed specifically to address the needs of English/Bulgarian bilingual young people from 5 to 21 years old living in and around New York. Over the years, it gradually grew into a broader cultural organization reaching out beyond the limits of the Bulgarian community to serve people with diverse backgrounds united by their love for Bulgarian culture, music, and language.

About This Cause

BULGARIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE SCHOOL Our unique curriculum is created for and tailored to the needs of children of Bulgarian descent born in the USA. It is based on choral rehearsals, which prompt developing a Bulgarian language curriculum to broaden the understanding of Bulgarian cultural values. This approach to teaching a second language gives young people a joyful and safe platform to develop social and communication skills transferable to all walks of life, while vocal performances foster their sense of cultural identity and stage presence. Once a week our students have the opportunity to get together, sing, learn, and socialize submerged in a Bulgarian speaking environment. Bulgarian Children Choir Bulgarian Singing taught by the musician and performer Petya Maglova. The Choir has 3 different age groups. 101 Kaba Gaidi New York 101 KABA GAIDI NY is one of the latest projects of Young Bulgarian Voices NY. It started in October 2013 with the goal to teach and create awareness about the art of playing the traditional Bulgarian KABA GAIDA and TUPAN, not only through the Bulgarian community in New York City, but also among the wide audience in the tri-state area and the entire United States. The Kaba Gaida (Bulgarian Bagpipe) is an aerophone musical instrument, from the Rhodope Mountains. It is larger and lower pitched that the Djura Gaida. We hope that soon the number of our KABA GAIDA players will reach the ambitious number of 101. And after that, if we have to… we will change the name – to The 1001 KABA GAIDI – NY.
