About This Cause

"Give a man a fish...he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish....he'll eat for a lifetime". 1a. Sustainable agriculture. Since 2014, Community of Hope Haiti Inc has led a farming cooperative with the people of SW La Gonave island, Haiti. 20% of total time is allocated to the activity. Agriculture and livestock activities are funded by private donations from the general public. 10% of overall expenses are allocated to these activities. Sustainable agriculture furthers Community of Hope Haiti's exempt purposes as it helps empower the poor to sustainably eliminate food shortages and hunger free of charge with the work of their own hands. Community of Hope Haiti Inc founded two local farm cooperatives, which provide jobs, food, and education. Future planned activities include agricultural irrigation, livestock husbandry, and student work study programs in agriculture. 2a. Clean Drinking Water. Since 2014, Community of Hope Haiti Inc has helped provide clean drinking water to the people of SW La Gonave island, Haiti. The local people of La Gonave along with US volunteers have built cisterns, shallow wells, and rainwater catchment and filtration systems. 5% total time is allocated to the activity. 10% of overall expenses are allocated to creating sustainable sources of clean drinking water. Ongoing projects will grow capacity to provide more clean drinking water to additional villages and farms. 3a. Disaster Relief. Since 2014, Community of Hope Haiti Inc has provided emergency food and water, medical supplies, and clothing to people of Haiti impacted by natural disasters. In 2016,Community of Hope Haiti Inc helped rebuild over 40 homes, 2 schools, and numerous roads due to Hurricane Matthew destruction on SW La Gonave island, Haiti. 4% of total time is allocated to this activity. 4% of overall expenses are allocated to this activity. Community of Hope Haiti provides food and water to widows impacted by local drought, which furthers exempt purposes to help the poor. 4a. Education. In 2016 Community of Hope Haiti Inc opened Lecole Communaute Lespoir D'Haiti in Grand Vide, Haiti. Prior to, no education past 6th grade was available in SW La Gonave island. To date, over 300 students grade 7 thru 10 have received Haiti department of Education approved education. 23 jobs for teachers and school staff are currently funded. 40% of total time allocated. This activity is funded by private donations from the general public. 30% of overall expenses are allocated to this activity. Future activities include expansion of education offered to students in grades 7 thru 12, as well as vocational and agricultural education. 5a. Medical Care. Since 2014, Community of Hope Haiti Inc has conducted 22 mobile medical clinics by volunteer US and Haitian medical care professionals on SW La Gonave island, Haiti. 5% total time is allocated to medical care. 5% of overall expenses are allocated to medical care. Future planned activities include constructing a medical clinic and providing public health education courses for the poor of La Gonave island, Haiti. Most services are free of charge. 5. Community and Economic Development. Since 2014, Community of Hope Haiti Inc has constructed a Community Pier, Community Center, school kitchen, mission home, community park with playground and basketball court, and multiple community roads. Community of Hope Haiti staff and volunteers, along with local La Gonave island, Haiti citizens, work to construct these facilities. 25% of total time is allocated to the activity. 40% of overall expenses are allocated to this activity. Future planned activities include opening an ice distribution center, and constructing a school and education center. These activities will help create job resources, which furthers our exempt purposes to help the poor in Haiti. 6. Awareness Program and Fundraising. Since Community of Hope Haiti Inc has conducted one fundraising activity on November 25, 2018. As a faith based organization, we seek to educate people about our Christian responsibility of attending to the poor and needy. 1% of total time is allocated to this activity. 1% of overall expenses are allocated to this activity. In the near future we will conduct fundraising activities in accordance with IRS guidelines
