Mission Statement

350 Seattle works toward climate justice by organizing people to make deep system change: resisting fossil fuels; building momentum for healthy alternatives; and fostering resilient, just, and welcoming communities.

About This Cause

350 Seattle is an independent grassroots affiliate of the 350.org global network. Since May 2013, we've helped to spur progress on climate change in Seattle. We exert pressure on the levers of power using everything from creative large-scale protest (like the kayaks blocking Shell's Arctic rig in 2015, or the more recent shutdowns of local branches of the banks that are financing the machinery of the climate crisis), to turnout at hearings, to Get Out the Vote work, to working in coalition for Green New Deal policies and a Seattle Solidarity Budget or against the new LNG facility in Tacoma. We secured over $21 million annually to transition homes off fossil fuels in the City of Seattle, and our Green New Deal team lead is on the City's Green New Deal Oversight Board--the same body that we helped to create. Our Fossil Free King County team persuaded King County (7th largest in the US) to pass an ordinance against any new fossil fuel infrastructure. We've also incubated a statewide network of 350 affiliates--12 of them across the state, and incubated a Civic Action Team that now generates tens of thousands of calls and emails to state legislators, demanding strong climate positions. We also have many teams that support a growing and thriving climate movement. With 30+ teams, 350 Seattle has a place for everyone to work toward a better future for all.
