A Great Day Farm fosters inclusive recreation & community-building opportunities for people with disabilities, especially adults with complex support needs. We work to be a vibrant, community-centered space that fosters freedom, creativity and inclusion through flexible & accessible recreational opportunities.
About This Cause
A Great Day Farm is a free drop-in recreational facility located in Northfield, Minnesota with a mission of providing free recreation and community-building opportunities for people with disabilities, especially adults & adolescents with complex support needs. The farm’s work is critical because people with disabilities, especially those with more complex support needs, are significantly less likely to have the funding, transportation & personal care staffing needed to be able to access nature & other outdoor recreational opportunities that build health & well-being. At the farm, we focus on chipping away at these barriers by keeping costs free for individuals & small groups, offering flexible scheduling and proactively embedding accessibility in all of our amenities & programs. Our indoor and outdoor facilities, which include a 3000 square foot mixed use pole barn and a 3.5 acre completely fenced-in outdoor zone, are available most days from 9 am - 5 pm. We offer a mix of structured & unstructured opportunities for individuals to come to the farm, where they are embedded as part of an inclusive, welcoming community. Our goal is to create an intentional environment that supports people with disabilities, their families and their communities to experience freedom, joy and autonomy that they might not otherwise experience in typical spaces. In other words, we work to ensure that they have “a great day!”
