Mission Statement
Empower Youth Network (EYN) is passionately committed to transformational change to accomplish our mission to promote and inspire youth to lead safe, healthy, and successful lives. We direct and manage seven programs in the Snoqualmie Valley to accomplish this mission: Youth Suicide Prevention, Substance Abuse Prevention, Youth Success! Mentoring, Pathways to Employment Success, Youth Leadership, Weekend Power Packs and CARE Team also known as TRACE (Timely Response to Adverse Community Events).
About This Cause
EYN programs are specially designed to support youth in both the Snoqualmie Valley and Riverview School Districts. These programs are based on specific community needs and protective factors. #BeKindSV (Youth Suicide Prevention) is an elementary school program that builds positive school norms and teaches students to be kind, recognize bullying, and stop it. Youth Success! Mentoring is designed to prevent students from dropping out of school and build their connections to school and community by meeting weekly with their mentor, a caring adult. Pathways to Employment Success is designed to connect youth with employment opportunities and options to discover career choices that appeal to them and provide them with internships and apprenticeships. The same care and planning have gone into each of our programs to help youth be successful in life and work. EYN’s top priority is to prevent youth suicide. Two recent reports, (Washington State Healthy Youth Survey and A Supportive Community for All’s Community Assessment) found that valley youth experience significantly higher levels of anxiety, depression, suicide ideation and suicide than their peers in King County. It also found that youth are not aware of where to find resources or how to get help for mental health issues. Snoqualmie Valley Youth are at HIGH Risk! Since 1994, the volunteer EYN Board and the Healthy Community Coalition partners have assessed needs, built capacity, facilitated planning, implemented strategies, and monitored outcomes addressing a variety of challenges including youth substance abuse, youth suicide, and violence prevention. EYN became a 501 c 3 in 2014 and our work is primarily focused on youth and their families. The new strategic plan aims to address the health and wellness of youth, families and community in the Snoqualmie Valley. Empower Youth Network facilitates meaningful community dialogue through hosting several important annual events and initiatives including the Key Leaders Summit, the Be the Change youth leadership conference, the Rise & Shine Awards to recognize outstanding volunteers, the Connecting a Caring Community Scholarship program that recognizes youth who have focused time and energy in creating a caring community, and the Healthy Youth Forums where results from the Healthy Youth Survey are shared with the community. In addition, EYN provides coordination support for the Community Coalition, Network board, Youth Councils and parent education initiatives throughout the Snoqualmie Valley.
