Mission Statement
CrossStreets Neighborhood Alliance comes alongside people in need to offer hope and a renewed sense of dignity. We serve low-income families in our community by providing nutritious food, school supplies, and toys to inspire creative play. We serve the poor and homeless by providing hot meals, haircuts, a shower, fresh clothes, and a place to talk with people who care. We go out onto the streets to bring food, clothing, and blankets to those who often feel abandoned. Our passion is serving our community and making a positive impact on individual lives.
About This Cause
Every year, many children go back to school without the essential supplies they need. We partner with Family Giving Tree to equip hundreds of kids with fully stocked backpacks so that they are ready for their first day back at school. Gathering school supplies is simple for some families, but it can be an overwhelming financial burden for low-income families in our community. We hope to ease their worries, so they can focus on what matters most – their child’s education. We also partner with Family Giving Tree at Christmas to help low-income parents provide gifts for their kids. Parents come and “shop” our toy shelves while the kids get to enjoy holiday snacks, a movie and crafts. We want to make sure that every family has enough to eat through our partnership with the Alameda County Community Food Bank. Twice a month, low-income families come to the CrossStreets Pantry and fill their shopping carts with nutritious food that helps them make it to the end of the month. For those in our community without a place to call home, we reach out to bring a sense of dignity and love. On Friday nights, a team of volunteers head out to the streets armed with food, clothing, and love . They search under freeways, by railroads and beneath bridges for people who are hurting and desperate. They seek to bring hope to the poor Oakland, Emeryville, Berkeley and San Leandro. On Saturday mornings, we provide a place for hot showers, haircuts, clothing, and a sit-down lunch. This gives us the chance to have conversations and convey that we truly care about each and every individual that comes through our doors. We also host special events throughout the year. These include our Thanksgiving and Christmas luncheons as well as our annual picnic and baseball game.
