Mission Statement
Ho‘ōla Nā Pua is committed to the prevention of sex trafficking and providing care for children who have been exploited.
About This Cause
Incorporated in December 2013, Ho‘ōla Nā Pua (HNP), which means “New Life for our Children,” is a human service non-profit organization which envisions a safe community where children have the ability to embrace their bright future. HNP’s foundational premise is that the societal reintegration of children who have been commercially sexually exploited requires a social safety net that includes prevention, intervention, empowerment, and opportunity for healing. In 2021, HNP opened Pearl Haven, a specialized residential long-term care facility that is the first residential treatment campus for sexually exploited youth in Hawaii. The program is uniquely designed to provide healing for youth whose symptoms of trauma interrupt their daily life and can benefit from comprehensive programming. HNP is committed to raising awareness of the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) and building a comprehensive system of care to facilitate their successful reintegration into the community through its community programs: the Starfish Mentoring Program (SMP), which provides one-to-one mentoring, Hoku Group Services, resilience-based activities in juvenile facilities and behavioral health settings, and the Education & Advocacy Program, which offers prevention education for youth, parents, and adults that work with children, community outreach, and specialized training on CSEC for outside agency service providers. HNP’s vision is to provide children who are rescued or escape from the abuse of sex trafficking with a path to restoration and healing from their trauma, an increased sense of self-worth, and the confidence and ability to successfully reintegrate into their family and the community.
